Summary

NATIONAL BESTSELLER

A unique, unfiltered memoir from the NBA champion and fifteen-time all-star ahead of his induction into the Hall of Fame。

Kevin Garnett was one of the most dominant players the game of basketball has ever seen。 He was also one of its most outspoken。 Over the course of his illustrious twenty-one-year NBA career, he elevated trash talk to an art form and never shied away from sharing his thoughts on controversial subjects。 In KG A to Z, published ahead of Garnett’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame, he looks back on his life and career with the same raw candor。

Garnett describes the adversity he faced growing up in South Carolina before ultimately relocating to Chicago, where he became one of the top prospects in the nation。 He details his headline-making decision to skip college and become the first player in two decades to enter the draft directly from high school, starting a trend that would be followed by future superstars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James。 He shares stories of playing with and against Bryant, James, Michael Jordan, and other NBA greats, and he chronicles his professional ups and downs, including winning a championship with the Boston Celtics。 He also speaks his mind on a range of topics beyond basketball, such as fame, family, racism, spirituality, and music。

Garnett’s draft decision wasn’t the only way he’d forever change the game。 His ability to play on the perimeter as a big man foreshadowed the winning strategy now universally adopted by the league。 He applies this same innovative spirit here, organizing the contents alphabetically as an encyclopedia。 If you thought Kevin Garnett was exciting, inspiring, and unfiltered on the court, just wait until you read what he has to say in these pages。

Fun trip down memory lane, good stories I’ve never heard

Shout out to KG dammit! He’s always been one of my favorite basketball players。 He had a strong, intense personality on the court and it translated over to the book。 This book is all over the place and I love it。 Basketball dorks like myself will enjoy the fuck outta this! Always been one of the realest out there!

Look, this is a fun book for any basketball fan, and especially any admirer of the unique energy and philosophy of KG。 But KG is a really smart, introspective guy - with a crazy poetic voice - and this book ultimately only scratches the surface of that。 I imagine that was by design - cultivating a brand, that sort of thing。 But I look forward to that point down the road when KG is old and wise, and gives zero shits, and really digs deep。 I know he hardly thinks of himself as a "literary" guy (th Look, this is a fun book for any basketball fan, and especially any admirer of the unique energy and philosophy of KG。 But KG is a really smart, introspective guy - with a crazy poetic voice - and this book ultimately only scratches the surface of that。 I imagine that was by design - cultivating a brand, that sort of thing。 But I look forward to that point down the road when KG is old and wise, and gives zero shits, and really digs deep。 I know he hardly thinks of himself as a "literary" guy (thats part of the basis for the encyclopedia format), but he IS a philosopher, and a poet, and the scaffolding is there for something legitimately great。 。。。more

Really enjoyed the format。 It felt straight from the heart and I like how he didn’t hold back。 Fans of KG, the NBA, and especially the Timberwolves, must read this one。

The format isn't for everyone, I listen to the audio version instead of reading the print version so I may have had a different experience but I personally quite liked it。If you love KG or 00's basketball you will probably enjoy this book。 The format isn't for everyone, I listen to the audio version instead of reading the print version so I may have had a different experience but I personally quite liked it。If you love KG or 00's basketball you will probably enjoy this book。 。。。more

He's been my favorite player for basically my whole life。 I loved how he talks about sport as art and the connections he makes to sport, art, and music。 He's an outside the box thinker and a one of one character。 He's been my favorite player for basically my whole life。 I loved how he talks about sport as art and the connections he makes to sport, art, and music。 He's an outside the box thinker and a one of one character。 。。。more

I'm going to keep it 100: if KG merely spit on the page, I would've squealed and called it art。 I am what is known as a Day One fan since this man stepped into the league。 Been a Ride or Die the whole 12 years at Minnesota on to the glory years at Boston and I literally sat on my couch and cried actual tears that fateful day that Kev and Paul Pierce were traded to Brooklyn。 All that to say, this book was getting an automatic four stars from me just for existing。 What an absolute pleasure it is t I'm going to keep it 100: if KG merely spit on the page, I would've squealed and called it art。 I am what is known as a Day One fan since this man stepped into the league。 Been a Ride or Die the whole 12 years at Minnesota on to the glory years at Boston and I literally sat on my couch and cried actual tears that fateful day that Kev and Paul Pierce were traded to Brooklyn。 All that to say, this book was getting an automatic four stars from me just for existing。 What an absolute pleasure it is to spend quality time with one of your all-time favorite athletes。 I learned new things about KG and gained an even deeper appreciation for his intelligence and work ethic。 I was concerned about the encyclopedia style format but it's actually pretty clever。 For the most part, the book does move chronologically although there are some topics that are out of sequence。 Nevertheless, it isn't hard to follow。 My main gripe is that there just isn't enough! I'm greedy: I want every single detail, especially about the Boston years。 Truthfully, the book lands at a 4。5 but I'm gonna round up。 After all, it's KG。 。。。more

I liked the book set-up; easy book to pick up and read a few pages。 KG is an interesting guy; warrior on the court and surprisingly enjoyable when capturing beliefs, mantras in the book。 I would recommend this book to any hoops fan。

Really good。 Unorthodox structure, which settled down nicely - and built on itself well。 Some interesting, moving, amusing, and insightful snippets from an long and lauded NBA career; and also life lessons and observations。I listened to the audiobook, and the narration was also very good。If you're a fan of KG, then this is a must read。 Really good。 Unorthodox structure, which settled down nicely - and built on itself well。 Some interesting, moving, amusing, and insightful snippets from an long and lauded NBA career; and also life lessons and observations。I listened to the audiobook, and the narration was also very good。If you're a fan of KG, then this is a must read。 。。。more

KG A to Z was a solid book but felt incomplete。 The A-Z format was unique but fell flat。I gained a lot of perspective from learning about his upbringing and home life。 It always amazes me to hear stories about genuinely self-made people。 My rating is a three/five because I wanted a lot more from his chapters on Mark Cuban, Uncut Gems and his routine/ habits that made him the beast he was。 I have a ton of respect for Kevin after reading this。 Solid read if you're a fan of the sport but it won't b KG A to Z was a solid book but felt incomplete。 The A-Z format was unique but fell flat。I gained a lot of perspective from learning about his upbringing and home life。 It always amazes me to hear stories about genuinely self-made people。 My rating is a three/five because I wanted a lot more from his chapters on Mark Cuban, Uncut Gems and his routine/ habits that made him the beast he was。 I have a ton of respect for Kevin after reading this。 Solid read if you're a fan of the sport but it won't be on your wall of classics。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 Unorthodox in its narrative form。 Not totally sure if this is too short or just right。 Some of these stories I have heard in interviews, but most of them are new and often fascinating。 Gave me a renewed respect for Garnett as a player and as a man of great character and great convictions。
